UTMB Health named one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals for 2026 by Healthgrades

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) has been named one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals by  Healthgrades, placing the organization in the top 5% of U.S. hospitals for overall clinical performance for the fourth consecutive year.

“Earning this distinction for the fourth year in a row speaks to the skill and commitment of our teams,” said UTMB Senior Vice President and Chief Medical and Clinical Innovation Officer Dr. Gulshan Sharma. "We’re proud of this achievement and look forward to building on this great work in the years ahead."

In addition to this distinction for overall clinical care, UTMB Health received three Specialty Excellence Awards in October, which placed the hospital among the top 10% nationwide for cardiac, pulmonary, and critical care. UTMB Health was also five-star rated for 11 services, including treatment of heart failure, stroke, and pneumonia.

“Being named one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals is a powerful affirmation of the extraordinary care our teams deliver every day,” said Dr. Jochen Reiser, UTMB president and CEO of the UTMB Health System. “This recognition reflects our commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and putting patients at the center of everything we do. We are proud to earn the trust of those we serve and remain focused on advancing health for the communities of Texas and beyond.”

To determine America’s 250 Best Hospitals for 2026, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for more than 30 of the most common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide.

“This year's America’s Best Hospitals list gives patients a clearer picture of where high-quality care is delivered most consistently,” said Alana Biggers, MD, MPH, medical advisor at Healthgrades. “Patients can feel confident in their decision to seek care at UTMB Health, an organization that is setting the standard for clinical excellence nationwide.”
