Leadership Shines Through Teamwork and Training

This month, we are pleased to recognize Cheryl Breaux, AGACNP, of the Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.

In their nomination of Cheryl for the Excellence in Leadership award, Dr. Hoang Pham and Dr. Keyan Mobli applauded Cheryl’s many contributions to patient care and student and staff education.

“Cheryl is an invaluable member of the trauma and acute care surgery team at UTMB Clear Lake campus.  She is highly involved in the education and training of our medical students, PA students, and surgical residents by modeling standards of behavior and having high expectations of performance in patient care.  I am often told that our team is pleasant and easy to work with and we deliver great care.  A lot of the credit for that can be attributed to Cheryl’s daily work with our team and the nurses. She exemplifies the mission statement and values of the institution.

"Cheryl has volunteered to become our lead trauma champion and hosts monthly trauma training for the nursing staff across all the UTMB campuses.  Her educational lectures are now being used as part of nursing trauma training and for CEU credits.  At the CLC campus specifically, she is the first resource the ICU and floor nurses call when it comes to trauma issues. As UTMB continues to grow, her devotion will play a role in providing consistent, quality care at all of our campuses This educational role is vital as it helps onboard new nurses to UTMB’s extensive trauma program and is a part of our verification as a high-level trauma center.”
