Robert E. Jackson, MD, MACP

Dr. Robert E. Jackson, MD, MACP was born in Houston, Texas. He attended The University of Texas at Austin, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with Honors and Special Honors in Botany in 1975. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in Botany before attending UTMB Medical School in Galveston, Texas, where he was awarded the Medical Student Research Award upon graduating in 1981. Dr. Jackson completed his internal medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and has been in private practice at the Texas Medical Center for over 40 years.

Dr. Jackson is a Past-President of the Medical Staff at Houston Methodist Hospital and currently serves as Medical Director of the Methodist Physicians Alliance for Quality. In 2024, he was honored with the John W. Overstreet, M.D. Award, Houston Methodist Hospital's most prestigious recognition. That same year, he became the inaugural recipient of the Houston Methodist Department of Medicine Clinical Excellence Award.

Dr. Jackson also serves as Chairman of the Continuing Medical Education Committee and the Center for Performing Arts Medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital. Additionally, he is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College (Houston Methodist campus) and the University of Houston College of Medicine. He holds the C. Richard Stasney, MD Distinguished Chair in Performing Arts Medicine at Houston Methodist.

Dr. Jackson has had a distinguished leadership career in organized medicine. He served as Governor of the Texas Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP) Southern Region until 2015, the year he was awarded Mastership in the ACP. In 2016, he was named a Laureate of the Texas ACP Chapter, and in 2019, he received the esteemed Drs. Ned Snyder / Del Chumley Advocate of the Year Award for his lobbying efforts in Austin and Washington, DC.

As Chair of the Harris County Medical Society’s Board of Medical Legislation in 2015, Dr. Jackson played a crucial role in securing $300 million for Graduate Medical Education and $4 million to restore statewide programs for mentoring medical students in Primary Care. He now serves as Immediate Past-President of the Harris County Medical Society.

Dr. Jackson remains deeply engaged in education, research, patient care, and quality integration for large physician groups and hospitals. His current focus includes quality and patient safety in complex medical systems. Passionate about education, he is committed to mentoring young medical students and residents, continuing to teach in his office while advocating for lifelong learning in medicine.

Grateful for the opportunity to serve his community, organized medicine, and his patients over the past four decades, Dr. Jackson remains dedicated to advancing healthcare and mentoring future generations of physicians.
