Bike Around the Bay is a two-day, 180-mile bicycle ride around Galveston Bay that benefits the Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF). The ride brings people together to appreciate the region’s rich natural resources and the importance of its ecological diversity. A UTMB team of 12 riders participated in the event, including UTMB Provost and Dean of Medicine Dr. Danny Jacobs, joined by faculty, staff and students: Elizabeth Cooper, Jesse Erasmus, Karla Fenton, Dr. Bret Howrey, Victor Moreno, Kevin O’Connell, Imelda Wicks, Harris Weis, Eric Wold, Dr. Dwight Wolf and Kirk Ford (who also served as videographer). The team reports having a great time, enjoying the bay from a different perspective and being cheered on by colleagues from the university.

UTMB Health was a community sponsor of this major event, which is in its eighth year. In addition to fielding one of the bike teams, UTMB also provided first aid stations and encouragement and reassurance at the cheer stations and rest stops.
