2014 SECC Chair Todd Leach (“Tin Man”) and Becky Trout (“Dorothy”) visit with Tracey Garcia in the Diagnostic Imaging Department at Angleton Danbury Campus when they visited there Nov. 14.

We are just a little over halfway on our journey down the yellow brick road to the Emerald City and our SECC goal of raising half-a-million dollars to benefit our communities.

As of Nov. 20, almost 1,300 UTMB employees have pledged $288,922 to the State Employee Charitable Campaign. The last day of the 2014 SECC Campaign is Dec. 5, but please don’t wait until the last minute.

Giving is easy, and just about any cause that is important to you is represented. For a list of charities, click here.

Don’t forget that in addition to the best reason to give — helping those in need — there are a few extra incentives:

- Each person in every area that reaches 100 percent participation will have the size of their email storage allotment increased by 100 megabytes — 100 MBs for 100%.

- A drawing for a new Fitbit, a personal wireless activity and sleep monitoring device, will be held at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 26. To be entered in the drawing, make your gift online by 9 a.m. that morning. (Pledges made on paper will be included as well, if submitted by Nov. 21.)

- An SECC lapel pin, proof that you have a heart and a kind, compassionate and sharing soul, will be sent to every person who contributes this year.

Some areas have already hit the 100 percent participation mark. See if your group is close at http://www.utmb.edu/secc/pledge/ParticipationByDept.asp

UTMB has consistently been a leader in the state, among the top in giving over the past 21 years. Let’s prove once again in 2014 that everyone at UTMB really does have a heart!
