Distributions from the endowment will be used for fellowship awards to gifted and deserving resident post-doctoral students pursuing the practice of maternal fetal medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Awards may be used to attract exceptional candidates and to reward and help retain students who have demonstrated exceptional ability. Awards may be based on need, but need shall not be a necessary criterion.


School of Medicine Distinguished Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Distributions from the endowment will be used to support the work of a faculty member in Obstetrics and Gynecology who represents the standard for care and excellence in teaching represented by the career of these three former faculty members.

Endowment distributions shall be used to support the Professorship and awarded in accordance with the Regents' Rules and Regulations to a faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology who specializes in Maternal and Fetal Health at UTMB.


Obstetrics and Gynecology Distinguished Professorship in Research and Mentoring Excellence

Funds may be used to recognize faculty who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the research mission of the department and to mentor junior researchers to become successful investigators.

Carolyn Nelson-Becker, RN, CNM, EdD Professorship in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Maria Patawaran RNC, MSN, WHNP-BC, DNP PREVIOUS HOLDER: Marlo Cochran DNP, WHNP-BC, RNC

The Carolyn Nelson-Becker, RN, CNM, Ed.D Professorship in Obstetrics and Gynecology shall be a permanent endowment and shall be used for the benefit of the School of Medicine. Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to support the Professorship and awarded in accordance with the Regents' Rules and Regulations pertaining to endowed academic positions to a faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology who is an Advanced Practice Nurse. It is the Donors' intent that the holder of the Professorship also be associated with UTMB's Regional Maternal & Child Health Program, or other departmental clinical programs that serve low-income, uninsured populations, and who also contributes meaningfully to UTMB's academic program. It is Donors' intent that the distributions shall be directed to the professional development of the holder and that the distributions shall not be directed to salary support.

Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used by the Dr. J.L. Jinkins and Dr. J.L. Jinkins, Jr. Endowed Professor to support gynecological research and teaching.

Funds distributed from this endowment shall be used to support a fellowship in accordance with the Board of Regents' Rules and Regulations pertaining to endowed academic positions. Endowment distributions will be administered and awarded in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

For unrestricted educational and research use by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.


Harry M. Little and Sherman Hart Little Resident Book Fund

Distributions from the endowment shall be used for scholarships for OBGYN residents for the purchase of books and or electronic medical records. Distributed funds may also be used to fund travel costs and/or meeting costs for the further education of the resident in accordance with the Regents' Rules and Regulations. 


Larry "Zeke" Zimmerman Endowed Fund for Innovative Programs in Children's Health

Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to support the Cheer! (Children's Health Education and Enrichment Resource) Room program within UTMB's Regional Maternal & Child Health Program. Should the CHEER! Room program cease to exist, then distributions from this endowment will be directed by mutual agreement between the Chairs of the UTMB Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics to support other innovative programs in children's health at UTMB.


Michael and Helen Wen OB/GYN Residency Education Fund

Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide educational support for residents specializing in OB/GYN medicine. Types of support include but are not limited to, assistance in the purchase of books and/or electronic medical resources, as well as the funding of travel costs and/or meeting costs for the further education of the resident.


Willard R. Cooke Lectureship in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Gokhan Kilic MD

Income for a memorial lectureship to preserve the teachings and principles of clinical practice developed by Dr. Cooke. 


William and Mary McGanity Research Fund in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Endowment distributions would be available for unrestricted educational and research use by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.


William H. Nash M.D. Endowed Award in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Distributions from the endowment are to provide an annual award to a fourth-year medical student who has chosen to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology and has been accepted into a residency program in the specialty.


William Rupert Kerr Lectureship

Earned income to sustain the memorial lectureship in his deceased son's name.

Awards that do not belong to Obstetrics and Gynecology

Class of 1973 Professorship in the School of Medicine

Shannon Clark MD, MMSPREVIOUS HOLDER: Syed Azhar MD

Distributions from the endowment shall be used to support the Professorship. This Professorship will rotate every five years between Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Psychiatry, Radiology, Pediatrics, and Surgery. 


School of Medicine Class of 1955 Teaching Professorship

A non-Obstetrics and Gynecology award to support the Professorship. it is awarded annually.
