Since 2006, UTMB has participated with the NICHD under a cooperative agreement in an ongoing multicenter program designed to investigate problems in clinical obstetrics to promote maternal and child health. Under the leadership of Dr. George R. Saade, MD, UTMB’s MFMU site pursues the Network’s major goals, which are to reduce the rates of preterm birth, fetal growth abnormalities, neurologic sequelae of the newborn, and maternal complications of pregnancy, as well as to evaluate maternal and fetal interventions for efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
