Welcome Austin Weyland, Reporter, Former Editor

Austin Weynand is an upcoming graduate of UTMB's 2025 medical school class. Before coming to UTMB, he earned his MHS in infectious disease epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he worked with both the International Centers of Excellence for Malaria Research (ICEMR) and the Centers of Excellence for Influenza Research & Surveillance (CEIRS), both in Zambia. While at UTMB he joined Dr. Gray's One Health lab group, participating in respiratory viral surveillance on Texas cattle farms and working on the UTMB One Health Newsletter. Austin has authored more than 20 articles for the newsletter and served as Editor in Chief during his 3rd year. In his free time, he enjoys backpacking and camping, snowboarding, writing, and going to the movies. He will begin his residency in pediatrics this summer and hopes to continue his research pursuits in infectious disease epidemiology as a physician.
