Using Videos in Online Learning Objects

Online videos are not just for entertainment. They can be useful for a variety of educational or instructional purposes. Available tools make it easy to capture video, do simple edits, and embed video into a learning object. Video can become a part of any learning object created with any software (e.g. Wimba Create, Adobe Presenter or other programs).

With the many available video-sharing websites, like YouTube, broadcasting videos over the Web has become an amazing phenomenon precisely because it is so easy.

Why Video?

Consider reasons why you might want to embed videos in LOs. What educational goals might be achieved through the use of embedded videos?

Possible reasons for embedding video

ADAPTers, you have seen the use of video embedded in earlier modules: in the introduction to ADAPT, in the Wimba Create Module, and in the Adobe Presenter Module. You have also received links to videos in emails from the ADAPT Director; the videos were housed on the ADAPT website.

In this module, we will help you learn the following:

  1. How to create your own video or use someone else's
  2. How to edit your video with Movie Maker
  3. Options for where to store and how to use the video.
