SHARING MY VIDEOS

How to share my videos with others

Once you have transferred your videos to your computer and have completed some simple editing; what next? You must have a place to put the video for your viewers to access.

If the video file is not too big, you may be tempted to simply email it to someone. Beware of large files clogging email Inboxes and Outboxes. It is usually better if you can store your videos on the web and simply send your viewers a link, rather than the entire file.

Below is a list of storage options to consider:

  • SharePoint and One Drive
  • Media Server (utmb.ensemblevideo.com)
  • a personal or institutional web-site
  • a course management system (e.g. Blackboard) or
  • Video sharing web-site

Video Sharing Websites

An inexpensive (often free) and really easy way to quickly share your video is to transfer it to a video sharing website. There are many. Check out any of these optional websites, Blip.tv, Flickr, TeacherTube, YouTube, 5min (a video hosting site for videos under five minutes in length), Graspr or Howcast. While any of these sites can meet some of your goals, we are going to focus on how to share your videos using YouTube. Many universities, including UTMB, already have set-up a YouTube channel(s).
