Janie Garcia has been with UTMB since 1994 and has worked for several departments and ASGs within the Academic Enterprise. She has served in numerous progressive roles with a primary focus in finance. Throughout her decades of service, she has amassed
an extensive knowledge base and is closely familiar with a broad scope of UTMB’s financial operations. Janie has also served on various committees at UTMB, including DBR Retros Task Force, Grants & Contact Account Work Group (Huron
Initiative), Time & Effort Advisory Committee, Uniform Guidance Steering Committee, and Financial Review and Reconciliation Explorer Governance.
In May 2019, she began working part-time managing Commitment accounts for the Office of the Provost, while also serving as Business Operations Manager for ASG IV. On October 1, 2022, she transitioned to a full-time role for the Office of the Provost as Business Operations Manager and assumed the title of Sr. Business Operations Manager in September of 2023. She brings a valuable perspective to the Provost Administration team, from her several years of service at the department and ASG levels. Janie is currently responsible for managing our Commitment Projects (Post) and overseeing the Office of the Provost and Dean of Medicine budget, working in tandem with the AE Finance team.
Janie is a BOI and was born at UTMB; she has followed in the footsteps of her mother, who worked at UTMB for 40 years. She is happily married to John Garcia, and together they have three children, Monique, Michelle and Maria; and four grandchildren, Tre, Devyn, Samantha and Tony.
