Michelle Moreno is the Chief of Staff for the Provost Office at the University of Texas Medical Branch and is a member of the AE management team.  She supports the Executive Vice President, Provost and Dean of the John Sealy School of Medicine and the Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer.  She works closely with the Deans and other AE leaders to coordinate projects for the Academic Enterprise.   

Ms. Moreno provides overall project management and information flow for the Provost Office.  She works to efficiently coordinate and oversee our executive staff team as well as the AE Service Center, Visiting Education Program, Provost Office Business Operations Team, Communications Team and the Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development team members.   

Ms. Moreno has over 22 years of experience in academic medicine. Prior to joining UTMB in 2013, she was Chief of Staff for 10 years for the Department of Surgery at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.  In this role, she participated in key projects with the Graduate Medical Education Office and participated in the development of a new tracking system for physician recruitment and onboarding.  Some of her fondest memories include interaction with faculty members, residents, fellows and colleagues in the interdisciplinary Duke Bariatric Surgery Clinic where she was appointed Manager for the last 18 months of her Duke tenure.   

Her professional career started with her appointment as Manager of the Conflicts of Interest Department for one of the oldest Los Angeles based law firms specializing in entertainment and media, real estate, and financial services.  She was also invited to moonlight after hours providing ad hoc legal assistant work for the firm to meet tight deadlines on multi-billion dollar deals.     

Ms. Moreno is married, has two sons and one very active Goldendoodle.  She has traveled extensively within the United States and has lived on the east and west coasts and grew up in the Midwest.  In her spare time, she and her husband love to travel seeking new experiences and cultures.  She also is an aficionado of dark roast coffees from around the world.
