Sharon Comvalius-Goddard, Ed.D, MPH, joined UTMB in December 2020 to be the Associate Vice President for Research Regulations and Compliance, where she is responsible for the Human Protections Program, the Animal Care and Use Committee, Department of Biosafety, Regulatory Operations for Institutional Office of Regulated Nonclinical Studies (ORNcS) and Research Integrity and Regulatory Affairs (RIRA).  

Dr. Comvalius-Goddard has over 25 years of research administration experience. Prior to joining UTMB, Dr. Comvalius-Goddard headed up the sponsored research offices at Boston College and Massachusetts Eye and Ear – Schepens Eye Research Institute, where she created policy and improved/created a research administration infrastructure and built relationships with faculty and sponsors. She also has had experience working and supporting research at Harvard and Columbia Universities.  

Dr. Comvalius-Goddard earned her doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania in Higher Education Management, her Master of Public Health from Hunter College, and her BA from Stony Brook University, where she gained a lot of experience in working in laboratories.  This laboratory experience piqued her interest in the field of research administration.
