9th Annual Advisory Board Meeting 2016
The Rehabilitation Research Career Development (RRCD) program's 9th
Annual Advisory Board meeting was held on May 18-19, 2016 and hosted by
the University of Southern California. The meeting was held at the
historic Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Director
Kenneth Ottenbacher, PhD, OTR, along with fellow RRCD directors,
associate directors, mentors, and advisory board members provided an overview of RRCD
activities and highlighted the achievements by scholars. Research of
three new K12 Scholars appointed since the last meeting was highlighted.
The new scholars include J. Addie Middleton, PhD, DPT, PT (UTMB), Meryl
Alappattu, PhD, PT (UF), and Elisa Gonzalez-Rothi, PhD, PT (UF). Other
current Phase 1 and 2 scholars gave brief updates of their research and
career plans. For a complete list of attendees, click here.
A primary focus of the meeting was centered on scholar
opportunities for career advancement, leveraging and securing new
funding, and facilitating collaborative relationships. Small group
discussions were held that focused on topics identified by scholars and
led by an external advisory board member and a member of the Executive
Committee. A poster session was held that allowed scholars to interact
with advisory board members and lead mentors to receive feedback on
current projects and grants. The meeting also included updates from The National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR) deputy director, Dr. Ralph Nitkin.
