10th Annual Meeting 2018

The Rehabilitation Research Career Development (RRCD) program's 10th Annual meeting was held May 21-22, 2018, hosted by the University of Texas Medical Branch. The meeting was held at the luxurious beachfront San Luis Resort on Galveston Island. The purpose of the annual meeting is to seek feedback from the advisory board regarding our program’s activities and progress, and engage scholars in interactive discussion on topics important to their research and career advancement.

Activities included a program update by the director, co-deputy directors, and associate directors. Eleven scholars (four Phase 1 and seven phase 2) presented their research and accomplishments, and participated in a poster session. Small group discussions were also held that focused on topics identified by scholars and led by a member of the Executive Committee. The poster session and small groups allow scholars to interact with advisory board members and lead mentors to receive feedback on current projects and grants.

The meeting also included updates from the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR), provided by Dr. Ottenbacher on behalf of NCMRR deputy director, Dr. Ralph Nitkin, who could not attend. Lastly, Craig Cassidy, Director of Research Advancement at UTMB, provided a presentation on the NIH Next Generation Researchers Initiative.
