Drug discovery researchers from Galveston to El Paso join forces to find new therapeutics to combat the pandemic - Primeur Magazine, June 2, 2020
As the world continues dealing with the pandemic, an international team of computational scientists, medicinal chemists, biochemists, and virologist, led by Texas researchers, are working to rapidly identify drug like molecules that stop SARS-CoV-2. UTMB’s Stan Watowich is part of the effort. “It’s a bold, rapid, high-risk, high-reward, initiative to find new starting points for drugs for COVID-19,” Watowich said.

The COVID-19 Drug Discovery Consortium, an international team of computational scientists, medicinal chemists, biochemists, and virologists have come together quickly to identify drug-like molecules that inhibit SARS-CoV-2 replication. “We are uniquely positioned for this,” said UTMB’s Stan Watowich. “We’ve done it for a long time. We know lots of players.”
