Dr. Neil Mehta, Associate Professor of Epidemiology and current UTMB Pepper Center Scholar, was awarded a $1.2 million grant from the National Institute on Aging, "Identifying the Causes of the Stagnation in National U.S. Cardiovascular Disease
Mortality". The study will investigate why declines in cardiovascular disease mortality in the United
States have stagnated. His team will analyze data from multiple existing health surveys to test leading hypotheses for the stagnation including the roles of obesity and diabetes and changes in survival after a heart attack and stroke. The work will also
address socioeconomic and racial/ethnic disparities in CVD mortality trends. The project will run from 2023-2027. Congratulations, Dr. Mehta!
