Sealy Institute for Drug Discovery Faculty Focus

Dr. Menachery (@themenacherylab) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at UTMB and has been studying coronaviruses (CoVs) since 2010.

His lab employs cutting edge reverse genetics to explore CoV biology, examine host immune responses, and develop novel therapeutics to treat CoV infection. His research on epidemic & zoonotic CoVs has provided critical insights to understanding infection with implications for emergence and public health.

Dr. Menachery has recently become one of the co-directors of the UTMB-Novartis Alliance for Pandemic Preparedness, an Antiviral Drug Discovery (AViDD) Centers for Pathogens of Pandemic Concern U19 funded by NIAID. He currently trains five predoctoral and three post-baccalaureate students.
