The Department is pleased to announce that Christine L. Shokrzadeh, MD has been appointed Chair of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) Young Surgeons Section (YSS).
The SVS Young Surgeons Section, established in 2022, represents a rapidly growing community of over 400 vascular surgeons within their first decade of practice. The Section is dedicated to fostering professional development, leadership, and engagement within the field. As Chair, Dr. Shokrzadeh will lead national efforts to advance initiatives in education, advocacy, research, and inclusion for early-career vascular surgeons.
Dr. Shokrzadeh has been actively engaged in SVS programming and has contributed to advancing opportunities for young surgeons through committee participation, educational initiatives, and national collaboration. The YSS plays an important role in shaping the future of the specialty by amplifying the voices of early-career surgeons and increasing their involvement in Society leadership and decision-making.
In addition to this appointment, Dr. Shokrzadeh has been recognized for her commitment to academic and professional development. She is a recipient of the SVS VOYAGERS Scholarship, a competitive program designed to support leadership development and career advancement in vascular surgery. UTMB will also be the second host institution for the SVS Visiting Professorship, an initiative that promotes academic exchange, mentorship, and dissemination of expertise across institutions.
Through her leadership, the YSS continues to expand opportunities for education, networking, and national engagement, including programming at the SVS Vascular Annual Meeting, participation in workgroups, and advocacy efforts on behalf of early-career surgeons.
