Dr. Faria Receives Award to Attend the Association of Women Surgeons Conference

Nov 13, 2023, 14:02 PM by John Carstens

Dr. Isabella Maria De Freitas Faria (PGL-1) was awarded a 2023 Resident Travel Award from the Association of Women Surgeons to attend the conference, as her paper, The Power of Partnership: Exploring Collaboration Dynamics in US Transplantation Research, was recognized in the American Journal of Surgery.  She was also awarded a stipend to attend the conference.

The American Journal of Surgery (AJS) highlights the top two papers in the Association of Women Surgeons (AWS) edition, recognizing excellence. Selected authors participate in the AJS Top Paper Session at the Annual Conference, where their papers contend for the coveted AJS Top Paper Award. From 252 submissions to the AWS AJS edition this year, two papers earned this distinction.

A message from Dr. De Freitas Faria:

“Being selected as one of the top AJS papers for this year was an incredible opportunity to present my work to women surgeons from all over the country. It was the first time I presented on the main stage of a conference and to an audience that included department Chairs, leaders in Surgery and the whole AWS foundation and leadership. It was amazing to receive recognition for a work that I designed and envisioned, and I am grateful for the support and hard work I received from all my team. Having this experience as an intern helped solidify my research and presentation skills and will allow me to dedicate myself further to my passion for academic surgery. The AWS Resident Travel Award made sure my trip was possible, and I am very grateful for the Association of Women Surgeons foundation for it.

Congratulations Dr. Isabella Maria De Freitas Faria!
