"The degree focuses heavily on value-based care and wrapping healthcare delivery around patient-defined needs and goals. These ideas feel like when we first started doing minimally-invasive surgeries. It seemed like such a big hurdle at the time, but now that we see the safety, speed, and benefit to the patient... we couldn't imagine doing it any other way."

Alexander Perez, MD, MSHCT, FACS is the Vice Chair of Quality for the Department of Surgery, Chief of Minimally Invasive Surgery, and Surgical Director of the Sealy and Smith Laboratory for Surgical Training Assessment and Research (LSTAR). Dr. Perez has joined Dr. Klimberg & Dr. Tyler in obtaining a Master of Science in Healthcare Transformation (MSHCT) degree from The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, which "equips health professionals with the skills needed to design and lead health care services that achieve better outcomes."

Dr. Perez is excited to utilize this new lens in creating patient-centric interventions and community collaborations for value-based care. He has begun communications & brainstorming sessions with several stakeholders to first better understand the needs of our diverse population in and around Galveston.

Congratulations, Dr. Perez!
