Michael Kueht, MD from the Texas Transplant Center at UTMB, and Gina Fullen of the Southwest Transplant Alliance presented a Grand Rounds discussion with the Department
of Internal Medicine in late October. The presentation: “Organ Donation & Donor Management: Turning Tragedy into Triumph” addressed the transplant donor management and organ donation process.
From the Mayo Clinic:
“It's estimated that every day in the U.S. 20 patients die because of the lack of donor organs.”
Through education and advocacy, the team hopes to build awareness and ease conversations with family members regarding the use, safety, and “second life” that organ donation can give.
