SOM Students Compete Against Surgery In Trivia Competition

Nov 15, 2023, 15:33 PM by John Carstens

John Sealy School of Medicine students challenged Department of Surgery faculty in a recent Faculty “Who’s Anatomically Correct” (FACWAC) competition. They were presented with questions about anatomy and pop culture trivia. The students won by a landslide victory!

The victorious students received specially crafted pins designed by one of our students, Devang Deepak, to adorn on their white coats. In addition, they were presented with delectable chocolates. The faculty members were given holiday mug gift sets in appreciation of their participation, and we also had various door prizes for those who confirmed their attendance at the event.

Donations at the event benefitted St. Vincent’s House, a student-run clinic in Galveston and affiliated with UTMB. The primary goal of the event was to generate funds for this clinic. Additionally, aimed to reintroduce a playful game traditionally played by first-year medical students in Gross Anatomy and Radiology. A message from Jennifer Liebig, Event Moderator:

“FACWAC is one my favorite annual events because it combines a sense of nostalgia from Gross Anatomy and Radiology class as a first-year medical student, fosters friendly competition between faculty and students, and is a fundraiser for St. Vincent’s Clinic who make a meaningful impact on our community every day.

Congratulations students!
