UTMB molecular biology Professor Pei-Yong Shi commented on his close work with Pfizer to study COVID variants. To create a new variant, a new spike protein is inserted into the old SARS-2 virus. “Our system is very different from a lot of other labs, and I think we’re the only one in the world doing it this way,” Pei-Yong Shi said.
