Welcome to the Department of Radiation Oncology, a center of excellence in cancer treatment, education, and research.  We combine state-of-the art cancer therapy with compassionate care for our patients and ensure that every patient has access to the most advanced cancer treatment options.  We are located at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston Texas. UTMB offers high-quality education for medical and allied health professionals.  Our biology division is a leader in cellular and molecular research in the field of radiation biology, and our division of physics and engineering provide the highest level of quality assurance for our patients and treatment technologies.   We are a participating member of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) clinical trials community and make every effort to ensure that ground-breaking treatment options are available to our patients.

Galveston Couple Establishes Endowed Chair

A Galveston couple has contributed $500,000 to establish an endowed faculty position in the University of Texas Medical Branch’s department of Radiation Oncology. The Irma Labardini Mendoza and Jesse Jesus Mendoza Chair in Radiation Oncology is the second endowed chair and fifth endowed faculty position created for the department and will support the work of the appointed faculty member to advance radiation therapy to treat breast and gynecologic cancer patients.  [Read more...]

RADIATION ONCOLOGY ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR


The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston invites applications for two vacant faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.  Candidates should be board certified or board eligible in Radiation Oncology with a strong interest or intent to focus on head and neck, lung, GI and/or GU cancer.

UTMB offers outstanding opportunities for candidates with aspirations for a career in academic radiation oncology.  Faculty have clinical responsibilities at both UTMB in Galveston and at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Houston.  Both institutions have state-of-the art resources including conventional and CT simulation, 3D and inverse treatment planning, intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic radiosurgery and radiation therapy (SRS & SRT), and LDR and HDR Brachytherapy.

The Department has an accredited residency training program, an accredited radiation therapy technology program in collaboration with Galveston College, and offers opportunities for clinical and basic research.  Important research programs are ongoing in radiation carcinogenesis, radiation cytogenetics, and optimization of radiation therapy.

Faculty of the Department currently includes three radiation oncologists, three medical physicists, and four radiation biologists (all full-time).  Fully staffed the department will include five radiation oncologists.

Compensation will be competitive, commensurate with experience and according to the rules of the University of Texas.
