Development of an Aerosol Induced Non-Human Primate Model of Lassa Fever

Dr. Thomas Giesbert

Principal Investigator Dr. Thomas Geisbert received UTMB’s first Medical CBRN Defense Consortium award of $10.5M for the project titled "Development of an aerosol induced non-human primate model of Lassa Fever."

In collaboration with Boston University researcher Dr. John Connor, Dr. Geisbert will lead research to produce an aerosol-induced NHP model of LASV that reliably recapitulates human Lassa Fever. Successful completion of this 5-year project will result in a prototype model that could be employed to evaluate the efficacy of candidate medical countermeasures against LASV.
