TCR linked to Medicare Health Outcome Survey (MHOS)

TCR linked to the Medicare Health Outcomes Survey (MHOS) integrates cancer registry data with patient-reported outcomes collected from beneficiaries enrolled in the Medicare Advantage (MA) program. MHOS captures physical and mental health–related quality of life using the Veterans RAND 12-Item Health Survey, along with information on activities of daily living (ADLs), smoking, pain, depression, sleep quality, and memory problems. The survey is administered annually to a random sample of 1,200 beneficiaries in MA plans with more than 1,200 enrollees and to all beneficiaries in plans with 500–1,200 enrollees, with the same respondents re-surveyed two years later. Data are available for cancers diagnosed and surveys conducted from 1998 to 2021. Lifestyle variables include smoking behaviors (current smoking status, lifetime cigarette use, and time since quitting through 2002), body measurements (weight, height, BMI, and BMI categories with updated cutoffs starting in 2017), sleep characteristics (average sleep duration, sleep quality, and the impact of urinary leakage on sleep since 2015), and physical activity measures (discussions with physicians about physical activity, physician advice regarding exercise since 2005, and self-rated physical health compared to one year ago starting in 2006).

TCR-Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS)

TCR-Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS): CMS annually administers CAHPS surveys to assess the health care experience of enrollees in both MA and fee-for-service plans. These surveys ask patients about their experience with, and rating of, their health care providers and plans, including hospital, home health care, doctors, and drug plan, among others. It also collects self-rated patients' health and conditions, and ADLs. DUA approved. Available years: 1999-2019

TCR-Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS)

TCR-Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS): MCBS collects information on access to and satisfaction with healthcare, usual source of care, and health status, functioning, and medical condition for community dwelling Medicare enrollees. These self-reported data are linked to administrative claims. A sample of enrollees is interviewed up to three times a year over a four-year period. MCBS employs a three-stage cluster sample design and aims to yield about 14,500 completed cases annually. MCBS follows beneficiaries into and out of long-term care facilities to maintain a comprehensive profile of their health care and experience Available years: 1995-2020.
