On May 23rd, guest speaker Dr. Anne Krook presented a workshop to help students and postdocs to prepare for and conduct a non-academic job search. Materials from the workshop, including the talk presentation, are available via the below links.
UTMB Student Poverty Simulation
Leslie Stalnaker, program manager for PMCH's public health program, coordinated the simulation of situations that involved students assuming the biographical identity of someone with strained or scarce resources and spending two hours attempting to walk in their shoes.

Maggie's fellowship is from the NCI, to study the initiation of cancer due to cytosine to thymine mutations. Anthony's fellowship is from the NIDDK, to study how certain microbiota metabolites promote intestinal epithelial healing.
Special Seminar Announcement
On February 27th, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Sigma Xi will host
a special seminar presented by Dr. Teresa M. Evans, PhD, from UT Health San Antonio. Dr. Evans and colleagues recently reported a high prevalence of anxiety and depression in graduate trainees that has prompted a call for greater institutional support and a cultural change within academic institutions
- Dr. Evans will discuss their findings and recommendations for interventions at 2 p.m. in Levin Hall South Auditorium: "The Brain on Academia: The Data and Strategies for Graduate Education." All students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty are encouraged to attend.
