Requesting Reasonable Accommodations
UTMB is responsible for ensuring that individuals with disabilities, including but not limited to staff, faculty, students, and patients, are afforded and provided reasonable accommodations as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act as
Amended (ADAAA) of 2008.
Requests for accommodation are evaluated on an individual basis through an interactive process with the employee, their supervisor, and the Institutional ADA Officer. All discussions and outcomes are handled with the highest level of
confidentiality.
Job Accommodation
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act Policy, UTMB's Job Accommodation Program ensures that individuals with permanent disabling conditions or work restrictions participate in the interactive process to determine whether reasonable accommodations can be provided. Job accommodations are considered on an individual basis.
Leave as a Reasonable Accommodation
This process is a collaborative effort designed to provide a reasonable leave of absence to individuals who need additional, unprotected leave. Leave as a reasonable accommodation is considered on an individual basis, and a Physician’s Work Certification and/or appropriate medical documentation is required.
Please note that this process complies with UTMB’s Leave of Absence Without Pay Policy.
