Work-Related Injuries & Illnesses

Reporting a Work-Related Injury or Illness

UTMB strives to provide a safe and secure work environment for all employees. In the event of a work-related injury or illness, it is important to report the incident as soon as possible to your supervisor and then to Human Resources.

Workers' Compensation Program

The university's Workers’ Compensation Program provides the necessary guidance and assistance should employees experience an injury or illness in the workplace. Workers’ Compensation Insurance (WCI) benefits may be payable to those who sustain compensable injuries or occupational diseases in the course and scope of their employment.

WCI is designed to provide medical coverage and, in some cases, financial payments. However, it is important to note that WCI is not health insurance, and it does not provide compensation for damage to or loss of personal property. Not all injuries or illnesses are covered by WCI.
