The Board of Directors of the Pisacano Leadership Foundation Inc. has selected the recipients of the 2014 scholarships. Alyssa Shell, a fourth-year M.D./Ph.D. student at UTMB, is one of seven scholars selected as a 2014 Pisacano Scholar. She is the third UTMB medical student selected since the start of the program in 1993.

Alyssa received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University. Recipients are noted as outstanding medical students who have made a commitment to enter the specialty of family medicine.
 


UTMB’s Dr. Thomas D. Kimbrough, a professor in the Department of Surgery, has been appointed to serve on the Texas Medical Association’s Committee on Membership.

TMA physicians and medical students appointed or elected to TMA’s 30 boards, councils and committees are responsible for studying and recommending action on important issues affecting Texas patients and health care policy. The Committee on Membership guides TMA’s and county medical societies’ membership recruitment and retention programs. 
 


Respiratory Care Services dropping off schools suppliesThe Department of Pediatrics thanks Respiratory Care Services for their generous  school supplies donations and extend a special thanks to the new Pediatrics Case Worker, Crystal Healey for her hard work in getting the supplies to patients’ and their families.

Dr. Rex McCallum has been appointed Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs for our university’s Academic Enterprise. This appointment solidifies Dr. McCallum’s duties and recognizes his important responsibilities as UTMB strives to deliver the very best in patient care while improving efficiency and decreasing costs. He will work with UTMB Health System colleagues regarding all professional practices and operations.  

 

Dr.  Timothy Craig Allen Professor for the Department of Pathology and Director of Anatomic Pathology was recently elected to the Board of Governors of the College of American Pathologist.
