Komen Race for the Cure

Register for annual golf tournament
A fall favorite, the Salute to Nursing golf tournament is taking registrations for the annual tourney, set for Oct. 10 at the Galveston Country Club. The event and auction party has raised more than $1 million in scholarship funds for nursing students over more than two decades. Blocker Burns Champions Annual 5K Fun Run 
The second annual Stop, Drop and Roll 5K run/walk will be held Oct. 4. Visiting scholar
The Institute for the Medical Humanities welcomes a new visiting scholar, the Rev. Vasileios Thermos. The author of numerous books and articles, his areas of interest include the relationships between psychological sciences and religion; the psychology of religious beliefs and experiences; dialogue between psychoanalysis and religion; and post-modernity and religion. 

Saturday sports injury clinic
Whether it’s football, soccer, cheerleading or lacrosse, UTMB’s expert team of sports medicine physicians and physical therapists are available every Saturday this fall to treat sports injuries immediately – the right way. The Saturday Sports Injury Clinic will be open from 9 a.m. to noon now through Nov. 8 at the UTMB Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes, 2240 Gulf Freeway South, League City. Meet the nurses
The UTMB Student Nurses Association is offering a free information session featuring 15 nurses from all specialties of the nursing field. This is a great opportunity to learn about the many different areas of nursing, including flight, forensic, emergency care, burn care, critical care, oncology and many more. Urgent need for blood donors
There is an urgent need for type O+, O- and A- blood donors; however, all types are welcome. The UTMB Blood Center donor room in Galveston is located in John Sealy Annex, room 5.212, and will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Victory Lakes Town Center Blood Center donor room will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
