UTMB Alvin Pediatric and Adult Care Clinic opening Sept. 22 2020 East Highway 6, Alvin, TX

Since 1995, the University of Texas Medical Branch has provided pediatric primary care services in Alvin with Dr. Syed Kazmi, the city’s medical officer, serving as director.

Now, 19 years after opening its doors to the city’s children, the UTMB Alvin Clinic is expanding its services, hours and footprint and moving into a new 10,000-square foot building where adults as well as children will now be able to go for primary care medical services.

The new freestanding clinic, located at 2020 East Highway 6, will open on Sept. 22 as the UTMB Alvin Pediatric and Adult Primary Care Clinic. The clinic will have 24 exam rooms, expanded X-ray services, a full blood-draw station and more staff members.
The clinic has been offering new extended hours since June even before it moves into its new space. New hours are7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Old hours were 8 to 5.
The full budget for the new clinic is $2.4 million with construction costs of $1.3 million. Interior costs including furniture and equipment are $1.1 million. The expansion is a Delivery System Reform Incentive Pool (DSRIP) project for UTMB under the Medicaid 1115 Waiver program in Texas, whose goal is to increase access to primary care services for the underserved.
“We are so happy to be able to expand our services to provide the adult primary care that is needed in the Alvin community,” said Dr. Cynthia Judice, UTMB’s division director of community-based pediatrics.
