More than 200 UTMB School of Medicine graduates received their degrees on May 30 at the Moody Gardens Convention Center in Galveston.

A majority of the class calls Texas home and will continue their studies as residents at Texas hospitals, 17 percent at UTMB. However, it's not all about the Lone Star state, as the class also has graduates from Canada, China, Colombia, Nigeria, Peru, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.

“It always makes us proud to see so many of our graduates continue their training in Texas,” said Dr. Danny O. Jacobs, executive vice president and provost and dean of the School of Medicine. “Of course we also feel honored that our graduates represent UTMB at some of the best hospitals not only in Texas, but across the country.”

The ceremony also included the announcement of this year's Gold-Headed Cane Award winner who is selected by his or her graduating peers, as well as the introduction of this year’s Ashbel Smith Distinguished Alumni Award winners. View all award recipients here.
