Your first Dose of History!

Formerly the Treasure of the Month, a Dose of History exhibit gives you a longer look at the rare books, archives, and unique items that can be found in the Truman G. Blocker, Jr. History of Medicine Collections & University Archives in the Moody Medical Library. The first “dose” is from the rare book collection. Two hundred years ago, Richard Bright (1789-1858) described what would become known as Bright’s Disease, a historical diagnosis of certain kidney diseases. On display is a first edition of the first volume of Reports of Medical Cases (1827-1831). This work led to Bright being known as the Father of Nephrology.

The display is on the 3rd floor of the Moody Medical Library and is available to view Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through December 2026.
