Learning Objectives |
Students will select a topic of interest in rural health, global health, public health, or urban-underserved health and work with a faculty mentor to develop the topic into a topical research project.
Students who successfully complete this course will be prepared to:
1) Develop an answerable research question related to rural health, global health, public health, or urban-underserved health,
2) locate and synthesize pertinent literature or data, and
3) discuss the implications of the research for the practice of clinical medicine in rural health, global health, public health, or urban-underserved health. |

This course is appropriate for medical students interested in careers that involve rural health, global health, public health, or urban-underserved health or a combination. The course is a required selective in the Community Engagement Scholarly Concentration. |
Description of course
activities |
Students will be paired with a faculty mentor who will work with the student to select a topic to complete a systematic literature review or in special cases, empirical research project. |

The instructor will discuss principles of appropriate attribution and
