Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to:
- understand the changes associated with aging and how they lead to decreased function and increased risk of morbidity
- understand biology of aging and its impact on the prevention, progression, and prognosis of disease and disability
-identify factors associated with successful aging and resilience against disease and dysfunction

Describe the qualifications background and career goals or interests of students who would benefit from the course:
Older adults are major age groups utilizing health systems in the US and each medical student needs appropriate knowledge of aging. The evaluation and treatment of elderly patients require specific geriatric knowledge, attitudes, and skills that are acquired across the continuum of medical education, and all medical students will benefit from this course.

Description of course activities
Course director will sit with student, discuss, and guide about how to plan to look for online articles and information about aging process, what points to concentrate on, and how to select necessary information.

Once rough draft is ready, course director will meet with student and go through draft and advise of any changes or need for additional information to make final presentation.

Will schedule a date and time at the end of the month, student will present his/her selective topic. Course director or other faculty (if available) will judge presentation based on main focus clarity and coherence of presentation, effective use of facts, statistics, and topic details.

  The student will be evaluated on a pass/fail basis. Criteria will include quality of presentation.

A. Frequency of written assignment(s)
  One written report (essay) with emphasis on reflection should be turned in at the end of the rotation. The final product should be at least 10 pages in length, not including sources, and written in double-spaced size 12 font. This is a current requirement for all BSHS courses.

  Seminars or tutorials culminating in a research paper.
Basic science research plus documented written report.
Humanities, social sciences, biostatistical or epidemiological research culminating in a scholarly paper or written report.
