The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) Department of Neurosurgery is proud to announce that the ACGME has granted permanent approval for the expansion of its neurosurgery residency program. The program will now grow to 14 residents in total, welcoming two new trainees each year.
“This approval marks an exciting milestone for our program and our institution,” said Dr. Patrick Karas, Program Director. “The expansion allows us to continue building on our mission to train outstanding neurosurgeons while meeting the growing demand for neurosurgical care across our region.”
The approval reflects UTMB’s commitment to academic excellence, innovative research, and high-quality patient care. The program’s growth will provide residents with expanded opportunities across UTMB’s campuses and further strengthen its role as a leader in neurosurgical education.
The complement increase takes effect immediately, with two additional interns joining the residency program in the upcoming academic year.
