Two Receive Roberto Logroño, MD, Award for Professionalism in Health Care

Congratulations to two individuals who received the 2023 Roberto Logroño, MD, Award for Professionalism in Health Care: Christen Sadler, MSN, RN, CNM, CNE; and Pooja Agrawal.

Both awardees were recognized May 15, 2023, at The Roberto Logroño, MD Lectureship for Professionalism in Academic Medicine held at the UTMB Galveston Campus. The nominees for the lectureship are UTMB trainees and faculty members noted for a high level of professionalism in patient care, teaching, and/or medical research, and candidates exemplify the principles of professionalism in everyday interactions with peers, patients, and learners.

Ms. Sadler is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing and was the first nurse recipient in the award's history.  She joined UTMB's faculty in 2020 and has provided clinical supervision for BSN students in Medical/Surgical, population health and maternity clinical facilities. She has initiated partnerships between the SON and various community organizations. 

Her nominations for this honor focus on her advocacy on behalf of students and underserved populations. She is praised for modeling respect integrity, honesty and compassion, and for her work globally and locally which inspires faculty and students alike.

Ms. Agrawal is a member of the John Sealy School of Medicine Class of 2023. She is passionate about working with underserved populations and has demonstrated excellence in the integration of scholarship and patient care through engagement in public health research. 

Her nominators describe her as "compassionate, humble, dedicated, thoughtful, articulate, enthusiastic, curious and accomplished." She will enter residency training with a transitional year at HCA Kingwood followed by Diagnostic Radiology at Baylor College of Medicine.

The Roberto Logroño, MD Lectureship for Professionalism in Academic Medicine was inaugurated on April 12, 2012, in memory of Dr. Roberto Logroño. Dr. Logroño embodied the spirit, character, and professionalism evidenced by his remarkable impact during his time at UTMB Health as the Director of the Division of Cytopathology from 1997 until his untimely death in 2006. He oversaw technologic advances, introduced advanced testing approaches, and greatly increased the academic stature of the Cytopathology Division at the national level while maintaining excellence in clinical services.
