A Message from the Executive Vice President, Provost, and Dean, John Sealy School of Medicine
Please join me in extending thanks to Sandra “Sunny” Hatch, MD, FAACS, FACCS, FACR, for her distinguished service as Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology.
Dr. Hatch first arrived at UTMB in 1997 as an Assistant Professor. Specializing in breast and gynecological oncology, she has been recognized with several awards for clinical excellence. She has been highly engaged in medical education and is a multi-year Educator of the Year honoree by the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology, among other teaching accolades.
Dr. Hatch was promoted to Associate Professor in 2001, then to Professor with tenure in 2005. She has held numerous leadership positions, including Medical Director for Radiation Oncology, Medical Director for the Multidisciplinary Cancer Clinic, and Radiation Oncology Residency Program Director. She served as Vice Chair and Director for Clinical Operations in the department from 2001 to 2017, when she was appointed interim Chair. Her Chair appointment became official in 2022.
We greatly appreciate Dr. Hatch’s leadership in the Department of Radiation Oncology and the impact she has had on countless patients, students, trainees, and others in our UTMB community. Dr. Hatch will remain with the department on a part-time basis to help support the transition, providing patient care and resident education.
Sincerely yours,
