Dear Colleagues,
I am very happy to announce that Amy Gonzalez, MD, FAAP, will serve as Assistant Dean for Admissions and Recruitment in the John Sealy School of Medicine (JSSOM), effective June 1.
Dr. Gonzalez is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. In addition to her work improving the efficiency and quality of care for hospitalized children, she is deeply committed to medical student and resident education.
She has been actively involved in teaching across all four years of the JSSOM curriculum. Dr. Gonzalez has served as Co-Director of the Practice of Medicine 2, 3, and 4 courses as well as the Transition to Residency course. She has been a member of the Admissions Committee since 2021 and was elected Chair in 2024.
A proud UTMB alumna, Dr. Gonzalez earned her MD in 2013 and completed her Pediatric Residency at UTMB, where she also served as Chief Resident.
Her dedication to education has been recognized through numerous honors. She is a graduate of the UTMB Scholars in Education program, received the Pediatric Educator Award for Excellence in Medical Student Education, and was inducted into the UTMB Academy of Master Teachers in 2022. She also received the John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award in 2023 and was named an Osler Scholar in 2024.
Dr. Gonzalez’s passion for education and her steadfast commitment to student success will serve her — and our school — exceptionally well in this new leadership role. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Gonzalez on this well-deserved appointment!
Sincerely,
Antonio C. Bianco, MD, PhD
