Dear colleagues, 

The John Sealy School of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Max Wintermark, MD, MS, MBA, as the new Chair of the Department of Radiology, effective April 1, 2026.

Dr. Wintermark is an internationally recognized radiologist and physician scientist whose career reflects exceptional leadership in clinical excellence, research innovation, and education. He joins UTMB from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he currently serves as Professor and Chair of Neuroradiology, leading a large, complex academic practice with a strong emphasis on quality, innovation, and faculty development.

A fellowship trained and board certified neuroradiologist, Dr. Wintermark is widely known for his contributions to advanced neuroimaging, stroke imaging, traumatic brain injury, mental health imaging, and emerging imaging technologies. His research portfolio spans NIH funded, foundation, and industry supported initiatives, and his work has helped shape national and international standards in imaging practice and research. He has authored more than 750 peer reviewed publications and has played a central role in advancing imaging based clinical trials and multi institutional collaborations.

Dr. Wintermark has held numerous national and international leadership roles, including serving as President of the American Society of Neuroradiology and President of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology. He currently serves as Editor in Chief of the American Journal of Neuroradiology, reflecting his longstanding commitment to academic rigor and scholarly excellence.

Equally important to his professional accomplishments is Dr. Wintermark’s reputation as a collaborative, faculty focused leader. Throughout his career, he has emphasized mentorship, interdisciplinary partnership, and the integration of clinical care, education, and research to advance departmental and institutional missions.

As Chair of Radiology at UTMB, Dr. Wintermark will lead the department’s clinical, academic, and research missions across the institution’s diverse care settings. His vision aligns closely with our commitment to high quality patient care, innovation, education, and service to the communities we serve.

As we welcome Dr. Wintermark into this role, we also extend our heartfelt thanks to Huda Al Jadiry, MD, for her steady leadership throughout the transition. With Dr. Wintermark at the helm, we are excited for the innovation and progress that lie ahead for the Department of Radiology.
