A Message from the Senior Vice President, Provost, and Chief Academic Officer, UTMB
Dear colleagues,
Please join me in sharing tremendous appreciation for Patricia (Pat) Ciejka, Associate Vice President for Library Services. She retires at the end of April 2026.
Ms. Ciejka’s tenure at UTMB has spanned more than four decades. She has overseen a wide array of academic resources and services aimed at promoting successful learning, teaching, research and patient care to the UTMB community.
Ms. Ciejka joined UTMB in 1981 as a clinical librarian for Internal Medicine and has served in progressively responsible roles in the Moody Medical Library and Academic Resources. These include Chief Clinical Librarian in 1982; Associate Director in 2000; and Administrative Director in 2007, which included management responsibilities for UTMB Classroom Services and the Moody Medical Library. Since 2012, Ms. Ciejka has lead team members from multiple support services which included the Moody Medical Library, testing centers, photography, videography, the print shop, academic computing and classroom services areas of the university.
Among her numerous contributions, Ms. Ciejka has played a role in the continued growth of the library and its transition from print to digital format. She worked closely with Business Operations and Facilities on the modernization of the building, including significant upgrades in 2012. This included the creation of a new rare book vault on the library’s third floor. She also led the establishment of the student testing center in Research Building 6.
Ms. Ciejka received her Master of Library Science from Simmons College in Boston, MA. She currently holds appointments with the Texas Health Science Libraries Consortium Board of Directors, the National Network of Libraries of Medicine Region 3 Board of Directors, the South Central Academic Medical Libraries Board of Directors and University of Texas Advisory Council on Library Affairs.
Following Ms. Ciejka’s retirement, Scott Boeh, Associate Vice President for Student Services and University Registrar, will serve as interim Director of Library Services.
Please join me in recognizing Ms. Ciejka’s commitment to advancing academic resources, supporting generations of learners and faculty, and thoughtfully stewarding spaces and services. Her leadership has shaped the university in enduring ways. We are deeply grateful for her four decades of service, and we wish her the very best in a well‑earned retirement.
Sincerely yours,
