A Message from the Dean, John Sealy School of Medicine; and Senior Vice President of Health Affairs
I am pleased to announce that Ramkumar Menon, PhD, has been appointed the inaugural Director of the Center for Reproductive Health at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB).
An internationally recognized leader in reproductive biology and maternal-fetal health research, Dr. Menon brings exceptional scientific expertise, visionary leadership, and a distinguished record of innovation to this important role. His appointment marks a significant milestone as UTMB launches the Center for Reproductive Health to advance interdisciplinary research, education, and clinical innovation focused on improving outcomes for women, mothers, infants, and families.
Dr. Menon serves as Vice Chair for Research and Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division Director of Basic Science Research, and Director of the March of Dimes Texas Collaborative Prematurity Research Center. He has established an internationally recognized research program dedicated to understanding the biological mechanisms that contribute to pregnancy complications, including preterm birth. His work has helped advance the field's understanding of maternal-fetal health through discoveries in inflammation, oxidative stress, cellular senescence, and reproductive aging. He has pioneered reproductive organ-on-chip technologies as drug development tools to reduce the risk of preterm birth.
Under Dr. Menon's leadership, the Center for Reproductive Health will advance the institution’s commitment to becoming a national leader in reproductive health research and innovation. The center will build strategic partnerships, support emerging investigators, and expand opportunities for interdisciplinary science that addresses some of the most pressing issues affecting reproductive and maternal health today.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Menon on his appointment as the inaugural Director of the Center for Reproductive Health. I am grateful for his leadership and dedication, and I look forward to supporting his vision for the center's growth, impact, and success.
