Construction Notice: Prado Walkway & Circle Drive Closure beginning April 9

Galveston National Laboratory (GNL) Building – Exhaust Fan Replacement

Beginning Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 3:00 p.m., the Prado walkway and adjacent Circle Drive at 9th & Market Street will be closed to all pedestrian and vehicular traffic to support scheduled construction work at the GNL Building. 

What to Expect

  • Location: Prado walkway from Circle Drive at 9th & Market Street, extending north in front of the GNL Building
  • Duration: Through Wednesday, April 15, 2026 (weather permitting; timeline may extend if needed)
  • Scope of Work: Replacement of rooftop exhaust fans at the GNL Building

Traffic & Access Impacts

  • Road Closure:
    • No vehicle access at 9th & Market St. Circle Drive
  • Alternate Route:
    • All vehicles must use 10th & Market St. Circle Drive
  • Deliveries:
    • Delivery entrances will remain open
    • All deliveries must enter via 10th Street
  • Pedestrian Access:
    • Follow posted signage for safe alternate routes
  • On-Site Safety Measures:
    • Barricades, signage, police officers, and flaggers will be in place
    • Access near the crane work zone will be actively monitored for safety
