Assistant Professor

About Me

PhD in computational radiation physics (Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, France). Medical Physics residency in Fox Chase Cancer Center (Philadelphia, PA). Instructor in Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond, VA). Senior medical physicist at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia). Assistant Professor at Fox Chase Cancer Center and more recently Senior/Solo medical physicist in various hospitals in Texas, Florida, and Indiana. Joined UTMB in April 2025. 25 years of experience in the field of medical physics. ABR certified since 2012. Teaching faculty for CAMPEP-accredited residency programs.

Education

  • Ph.D. in Radiation Physics.
  • Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, France (1999).
  • Thesis Title: Monte Carlo Simulation of Particle Transport in Media - The GEPTS System.
  • M. S. in Nuclear and Atomic Physics. Claude Bernard University, Lyon, France (1994).
  • Thesis Title: Rotation and Vibration Spectra of Na atomic aggregates.

Research

Expert in Monte Carlo simulation techniques. Developed from scratch a general-purpose Monte Carlo system GEPTS (Gamma Electron and Positron Transport System) for applications in dosimetry, imaging, and health physics. GEPTS is the basis of the first sub-minute dose calculation engine for prostate implants taking into account tissue heterogeneity and inter-seed attenuation from first principles. GEPTS is also used to simulate patient dose distributions for external beam therapy (Varian linacs, Tomotherapy). 20+ research articles (80% as first author) published in leading peer-reviewed journals. 30+ meeting and conferences abstracts. 890+ citations, h-index=14, and i-index=16.
