About UTMB Health:

Jennie Sealy Hospital - Galveston, TexasUTMB Health has a long marvelous history of advancing health sciences education, research and patient care. It was the first academic health center in Texas (est. 1891) and is home to the state’s first schools of medicine, nursing and health professions. It is also home to the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the Galveston National Laboratory. There are more than 3,000 students and approximately 970 faculty members.

For more than 125 years, the university has maintained a forward-thinking spirit that has enabled it to serve its students, its patients and people in Texas and beyond in innovative ways. That pioneering spirit is alive and well today, enabling us to honor our legacy even as we expand our focus to improve health care worldwide. The members of the UTMB community share a deep commitment to service, an enduring dedication to excellence, a strong desire to blaze new trails and a great willingness to leverage their extraordinary expertise.

The academic medical center is composed of three campuses. The main campus is situated on 84 acres on the east end of Galveston Island and is home to John Sealy Hospital (196 beds) and Jennie Sealy Hospital (252 beds). UTMB-Galveston is also home to the 108-bed Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Hospital (more commonly known as Hospital Galveston), which is dedicated solely to the care of Texas's offender population and runs one of the largest pharmacies and largest telemedicine programs in the nation.

UTMB Health’s League City Campus also includes a new hospital, emergency room and urgent care clinic. The League City Hospital opened in June 2016. The new facility contains 20 medical/surgical beds and services for hospital stays up to 72 hours. The League City Campus offers exceptional care for mothers and their healthy newborns in spacious LDRP rooms. Here, families stay in the same room throughout their birthing experience and Mother-Baby stay. Additional patient floors and a second patient tower will include intensive care units, expanded medical and surgical specialty care and expanded procedural and diagnostic care areas.

The UTMB Health Angleton Danbury Campus consists of a 45-bed hospital and multiple clinic locations. In total, UTMB operates nearly 100 clinics at 41 locations across the Houston-Galveston region, providing much needed primary and specialty care services to a rapidly growing population. It also provides Regional Maternal Child Health care across the state at 13 locations.

In 2010, UTMB Health became the 49th member of The Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world. Thanks to this collaboration, fellows will have the unique opportunity to learn more about the value of collectively improving overall population health while ensuring UTMB and the Houston/Galveston region remain leaders in health sciences education, research and patient care well into the future.
