Being a beach resort town in the Greater Houston area, Galveston is certainly a fun place to live in Texas. You can learn about life in Galveston at the UTMB Living. You can also find general information about student life at the website of UTMB Office of Student Life.
SBB students work hard to pursue their career goals. Many of the students are also active in extracurricular
activities. Some students' hobbies are photography, yoga,
swimming, surfing, marathon running, gaming, volunteer work,
and just hangin' out. The SBB program is closely tied to the BCSO
(Biological Chemistry Student Organization)
— our departmental student organization. The BCSO is very active,
doing social work & volunteering, social outings & their infamous
BBQs.
Galveston
Island is on the Texas Gulf coast in the United
States, about 45 miles south-east of Houston. Galveston
celebrates various festivities throughout the year. The largest crowds,
sometimes in excess of 250,000 people, are typically partying at Mardi Gras,
or Lone
Star Rally — the yearly Texas motorcycle festival.
Other incredibly fun options on the island are Dickens
on the Strand — a throwback weekend
into Victorian times, the regular
Historic Homes Tours, the new Schlitterbahn Waterpark, Moody Gardens, the Art
Walk which occurs approximately every 6 weeks, various triathlons and 5k runs, the Grand 1894 Opera House —
where many famous actors/musicians perform, and more.
