Research Interests

My research interests mainly focus on signaling mechanism of innate immune response during airway inflammation using molecular biology, cell biology, system biology, biochemical, and dynamic imaging approaches. One of my major concentrations is to understand signaling pathways controlling the "master" regulator of inflammation known as nuclear factor-kB (NF-kB) signaling networks in airway epithelial cells in response to viral infection, cytokine stimulation, and double stranded RNA exposure. Most recently, we established a model of stable type II epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) induced by chronic TGFb stimulation of telomerase-immortalized primary human small airway epithelial cells (hSAECs) and we are using this model to actively explore the pathogenesis and therapeutic interventions of severe asthma associated with fibrosis.
