UTMB initiates clinical trial on how the body changes with physical activity

Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium (MoTrPAC)

The MoTrPAC research study is the largest effort to date, aimed at understanding how physical activity improves health and prevents disease. The main goal of the MoTrPAC is to gain a better understanding of how the body changes with physical activity. This will help researchers and doctors to prescribe tailored exercise programs in the future.

To qualify as a SEDENTARY participant for this research study, volunteers should:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have a BMI between 19-35 calculate your BMI
  • Exercise 1 time a week or less
  • Have no history of diabetes or heart disease
  • Be willing to have study-related health exams and exercise with a personal trainer for 12 weeks
  • Participation in the SEDENTARY cohort is approximately 6 months

To qualify as a HIGHLY ACTIVE participant for this research study, volunteers should:

  • Women and Men 40 years of age or older
  • Have cycled OR lifted weights on a regular basis for more than a year
  • Have no history of diabetes or heart disease
  • Would like to have the opportunity to participate in human performance testing and have study-related health exams at UTMB.
  • Participation in the HIGHLY ACTIVE cohort is approximately 6 weeks
