UTMB Opens Instrumented Home to Advance Healthy Aging Through Real-World Technology Testing
August 2026 | The Sealy Center on Aging & NIA Pepper Center at UTMB
The Texas Age-Tech Initiative at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) officially opened its new Instrumented Home this summer, welcoming researchers, clinicians, and community partners for an open house and guided tour of the innovative research space.
Designed as a living laboratory for testing emerging age-tech solutions, the Instrumented Home provides a realistic residential environment where technologies and care models can be evaluated under everyday living conditions before broader community deployment. The event showcased the initiative's vision for advancing healthy aging through collaborative research, technology innovation, and user-centered design.
Shaping the Future of Aging at Home
Visitors at open house events this summer had the opportunity to tour the facility, learn about ongoing and planned research initiatives, and see demonstrations of technologies aimed at supporting aging safely and independently at home.
